If you thought we meant the knitting stitch you’re quite mistaken. The gin and ale drink is served hot with sugar or other ingredients added and was mentioned by Charles Dickens in several of his novels.
This drink started out as a wormwood-infused ale, but has since evolved to include gin. The strong anise taste of wormwood helped to disguise the off-taste of ale made before more modern brewing techniques.
