Come September, hundreds of libraries and bookstores around the U.S. will be bringing awareness to the issue of censorship and celebrating the freedom to read during Banned Books Week 2014. We believe in the right to read whatever our hearts desire, regardless of whether others agree with the messages the words are giving us. It is each person’s own responsibility to monitor what goes into his or her brain and to choose which books to read in accordance with his or her set of morals. Don’t be that stick in the mud who tells someone else they can’t read a book!

Are you a banned book reader? We’ll bet you’ve read at least one of the banned books below. Check out this video to hear passages from some of America’s most frequently banned and censored books, and find out how many you’ve read. Listen carefully. Can you tell why these books have banned? Do you think they should have been?
