Student With Autism Accepted To 19 colleges With Eight Full-Ride Scholarships

Graduating high school is an exciting time. Some teens decide to pursue trades or start work right away. Others might take a gap-year to figure out their life plan. But many high schoolers go on to pursue upper education through college.

18-year-old Kymera Mitchell chose to go that route, and it seems she has plenty of options to choose from.

According to ABC 7 Chicago, Mitchell was formally accepted into 19 colleges! Beyond that, she received eight full-ride scholarships.

Mitchell was diagnosed with autism as a child, but she didn’t let that slow her down. She went through the Chicago public school system and excelled academically. Mitchell maintained a 4.0 GPA as a student at Alcott College Prep. She graduated in May 2023.

It wasn’t always easy for her. She didn’t always have the support she needed from the school system to thrive, but she pushed through with the support of her mother, Kalaveeta Mitchell.

According to Good Morning America, her mother said she had to be a huge advocate to get her daughter the help and care that she needed in school. In the end, it all paid off.

According to ABC 7 Chicago, Kymera Mitchell said: “If someone or a group of people try to stop you, don’t let them do that, because you are way better than that.”
