We’ve all heard the saying that money can’t buy you happiness, but as humans, we can’t help but sometimes look at what is on the surface rather than looking at what is underneath. In reality, most of us don’t know what will make us happy, so what can we do to be satisfied with what we have?
After you complete ‘The Science of Well-Being‘, which is being offered online for free by Yale University, you will have the answer to the question. Lifehacker reports that the 10 week course includes 2 to 3 hours of reading and video every week. You don’t have to keep up with the curriculum at their pace, you can do it as fast or slow as you want. You may even want to take a few week’s worth of courses if you have a free weekend but if you are swamped, you can spread things out.
Laurie Santos is a Yale psychology professor who will be teaching the class. Students will be taken through relevant research on how the human brain is wired to think about well-being. It will also help to teach us about how we can be happier in life. The coursework is task-oriented and it is designed to help you produce better habits. Anyone who feels overwhelmed or has difficulty setting goals will find this course to be beneficial.
All in all, it will cost you about 20 hours worth of your time. Is it worth it? 3,731 former students rated the course, giving it 4.9 out of five stars.
The course may be free, but there is an official certificate provided to mark your completion. You can add it to your LinkedIn profile for $50. Sign up for the class on the Coursera website to get started.
I love to write and it keeps me busy. I've been working online, full time since 1999.
