Beautiful Friendship Blossoms After 4-Year-Old Shouts ‘Black Lives Matter’ At Home Depot
Sherri Gonzales was shopping at a Home Depot Commerce City when she heard a small voice cry out, “Black Lives Matter!”
The shout came from 4-year-old Camryn Radcliff, who was with her mother, Cassi Radcliff. Cam said she initially saw Gonzales’ Denver Broncos necklace, her own favorite team, and knew she had found a friend. Cassi said the shout out was unexpected, but made for a welcome moment of compassion, and a proud mom.
“She said it with strength, like she was making a point,” Gonzales told KCNC in Denver.
Gonzales was happy Camryn shared her support, too.
“Thank you so much for saying that and for recognizing that my life matters,” she said.
Gonzales and Cam got a photo together bumping elbows in the store, after which Cam invited her new friend over for a sleepover, Good News Network reports.
Cam and her mother shared their phone numbers with Gonzales, and soon learned about her nonprofit organization Sherri’s Girls Empowerment International, which supports clean water, women’s health and educational resources in Africa.
With the profits from a subsequent garage sale, Cam and her mother raised $2,070 to help bring clean water to the Masai, and improve health and education resources in Karagita, Kenya.
“[They] donated every penny to my school in Kenya,” Sherri said.
Expect a lot more from this new pair of friends. They are changing the world together!
“All of this happens because a sweet little 4-year-old recognized that my life matters,” Gonzales said.
