Korean War Veteran Graduates College At 88 Years Old

An 88-year-old veteran of the Korean War has graduated from Fordham University, 66 years after attending there freshman year in 1956.

John Lenehan always meant to finish college, but he had to drop out when he got a good job out of town.

Unfortunately he was short only 28 credits, but despite not graduating, he still went on to have a successful career, get married, and raise a family.

One day out of the blue, when he was 86 years old, he decided to go back to Fordham to finish his degree.

His wife thought it was a great idea and supported his idea of going back.

Lenehan asked the school if he could go back, and of course they said yes.

He finished his classes and earned his remaining 28 credits needed to graduate.

He rang the bell at a creepy for veterans graduating this year, before heading to his real graduation ceremony to receive his diploma.

Lenehan’s hard work and dedication in finishing school just goes to show that you’re never too old to learn, and that you can do anything you put your mind to.

He hopes that his story will inspire others to follow their passions.

“It’s never too late to finish the job you started,” he told GMA. “Whether it’s your personal life, your business life, your professional life, if you started something and you didn’t really finish it but you’d like to, get up and do it.”
